An Inside Look Of A Bespokeable Shirt Recommendation

Cao Vinh, a tailor in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam  recommended a shirt for Andy in New York, NY USA.

Andy, who dresses conservatively, wanted a casual shirt for work. He has brown eyes, dark brown hair, and a fair-to-medium skin tone. He has a round face shape, a normal shoulder slope, and a normal stomach size. He listed blue, green, white, and black as his preferred colors, but did not have any special requests for the tailors.

So, Cao Vinh recommended this shirt to Andy, and said:

The Fabric a light blue base with blue & black tattersall check.

Of your color preferences, I think blue is the best choice for your first shirt. This is because you can wear blue with so many other colors of pants, jackets, shoes, etc. This one have a Tattersall check pattern, and the stripes in alternating colors is very appropriate for a casual occasion. Another thing that make this shirt so appropriate for casual setting is the weave. It is a coarser weave, and due to its heavy weight and texture, you should not wear with a tie. You can wear with bluejeans, or khakis, and a dark grey tweed or black blazer.

The Collar a close point collar, about 4.6 cm back height.

You must wear the ‘point’ collar. Because when the points are close together it can create the effect of making your face look less round. The French collar also can do this for you, but I think the French collar is too formal for this.

The Buttons black

Black button gives some contrast to the blue so this shirt will have a little bit more depth.

Dung, a tailor in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam recommended a shirt for Marc in Hilversum, Holland.

Marc, who describes his fashion style as ‘hipster’, wanted a formal shirt for work. He has grey eyes, and a fair skin tone. He has a narrow face shape. He didn’t leave any special requests for the tailors in his request for quotation.

So, Dung recommended this shirt to Marc, and said:

The Fabric a dark neutral multi-colored mixed weave with vertical strips.

Because you have the grey eye, neutral colors are your best colors. So the black, white, & grey will look very nice against the backdrop of your body’s natural colors. Wear under a light grey sweater or jacket, and a white tie.

The Collar the medium spread Italian style

The Italian collar is appropriate for a formal shirt, and the spread of the collar’s points will even out the narrowness of your face.

The Cuff an angled double cuff

French cuff for formal uses. The angle give it a little more style. This is appropriate for younger men.

The Pocket an angled pocket

angle pocket to match the angle cuff. The details are very important.

The Buttons grey

grey buttons just like your eyes!!! But put in some white threading for a contrasting effect.

The Local Tailor Re-defined

Blank Label, one of the hundreds of online clothing apps that let people design & customize their own off-the-rack factory-made shirts, claims that a a light blue herringbone fabric would cost $300 at your ‘Local Tailor’. The complete inaccuracy of that aside, it really got us thinking… What’s does ‘local tailor’ even mean anymore? Aren’t we rendering the term obsolete?

You see, Bespokeable enables people to connect to and collaborate with awesome tailors from all over the world right from their home computers, without ever having to leave their homes.  As a result, the tailor’s location becomes totally irreverent. Collaborating on a design with a tailor on Bespokeable is the same whether that tailor is way across the globe or just down the street.

The ‘Local Tailor’ is in Vietnam.

Lam Couture, a highly rated tailor on Bespokeable (100% positive customer feedback), has the very same fabric that Blank Label says costs $300 at the tailor (120s 2 ply light blue herringbone) for just $60, which by the way, is less than half of the price Blank Label is charging for making it in their Chinese factory.

So, if the fine tailors at Lam Couture can handcraft this beautiful fabric into an even more beautiful shirt in their small studio in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and have it shipped right to your front door, aren’t they the local tailor?

The ‘Local Tailor’ is in Italy.

PIACEMOLTO, another highly reputed tailor on Bespokeable (100% positive customer feedback), from the heart of the fashion world in Milan, Italy, also has a similar fabric that is cheaper than Blank Label’s factory made shirts - this time for a third of what they claim costs at the tailor.

So again, if the excellent tailor at PIACEMOLTO can handcraft this shirt in his studio in Milan, Italy, and have it shipped right to your front door - without you ever having to leave your house - isn’t he the local tailor?

At Bespokeable, we recognize that artisan talent is everywhere the world over. It’s our goal to organize that talent and make it insanely easy  for people to discover them, collaborate on designs with them, and transact with them, no matter where they are.

The talent is everywhere; so should be the local tailor!

Why Recommendations Will Rule the 21st Century

Here’s a prediction: Recommendations will rule commerce in the 21st century.

The reason? One word. Customization.

The days of buying mass-produced, cookie-cutter type products are over. The world is entering a new era, where people want scarcity.  They don’t want what their neighbors have.  What’s more is that the Internet, along with globalization, is making customized products not any more expensive than what’s offered off-the-rack.  The convergence of these forces is opening up a whole new market for customized products. In the future, almost everything you have will be customized, and made just for you, and only you. One day your great granddaughter is going to ask you why we all took the same aspirin, and not the genetically modified for each person aspirin that she will take.

But the customization of products does come with some real problems - for both buyers and sellers. The biggest problem associated with buying customized goods is the sheer amount of options that are thrown at the buyers. Most people don’t actually know what they need. Since the average buyer is not an expert designer, negotiating the near bottomless pit of decisions overwhelms him until he either a) finally succumbs to the paradox of choice, or b) creates something so ugly or dysfunctional that he can’t even use it. For sellers, the biggest problem is becoming commoditized when so much of the design is handed over to the buyers. How does one compete in a world where his product configurator is just like the next guy’s?

A recommendation is the single solution to both of these problems. A personalized recommendation from a seller can help the buyer make the decisions needed to customize his product appropriately. In addition, a recommendation allows the seller to display his expertise and set himself apart from the rest of the field. After all, the competition can copy the look and feel of a storefront or web interface, and they can sell the same materials, even at a cheaper price. But, the competition simply cannot copy the timely knowledge and expertise that is inside a personalized recommendation.

The recommendation is the intersection of this discovery (buyers) and expertise (sellers), two cornerstones of commerce and trade. As customized products become more ubiquitous, and replace mass-produced products this century, the recommendation is going to be king.
